I was just about asleep on my couch yesterday evening after work, when a knock sounded on the door. Not only did this send a peal of barking from my little Tigger, but it interrupted something that I really wanted and needed.
Grumbling, I got up, went to the door, and saw the UPS man hustling down my driveway on his return trip to his van. Situated by the door was a package. I hollered out thank you and brought it in. I really didn't mean the thank you. He made me mad. Who did he think he was, interrupting sleep of tired, working people?
Maybe it was the sleepy state I was in, maybe it was just stupidity, but I opened it.
It was two books. One hardback and one paperback. Addressed to me but NOT addressed to me. I mean it was MY NAME, but it was not my address. Looking at the packing slip, I realized my mistake in opening the box. It was a B and N dot com purchase, and I haven't made any of those. I went to the phone book and looked up people with my name to find this person and let them know UPS had made a mistake.
My husband comes by at this point to ask, what are you doing?
I told him and he said, Oh. Yeah. They called the other day.
What? says I.
They were looking for the person on the package but that address doesn't exist. I told them you were a writer who bought a lot of books, and it was probably yours.
It's not, says I.
He shrugs and leaves me to figure things out.
Well. Damn.
I looked at the package, then the phone book, and decided to google the person.
I was the only person with this name in my smallish town to show up.
Laughing manaically, I took my two new books to the couch and promptly fell asleep, joyous at my latest acquisitions.
They are : A Maidens' Grave by Jeffery Deaver, and Everlasting by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss.
A historical romance, my second favorite read, and a suspense thriller, my first.
Life is sooooo good.
