What makes us do it?

...this age old question comes from reading too many other blogs, btw.

The question is: what makes us keep writing even in the face of complete and utter rejection? What also, then, makes an agent keep reading queries from authors who have no clue what they are about?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind. The answer is blowing in the wind.

you would think that writers would tire of the cycle. Write, edit, revise, submit, be rejected, rinse and repeat.

you would likewise think agents would get sick of opening queries that do not follow guidelines, nor make a lick o' sense, to coin a phrase.

But the answer is, we do keep at it. We keep writing because we cannot do otherwise. We are incomplete zombies without our work to keep us sane. And I need not say it, but I will, that agents need writers. And every once in a while, a good writer turns out a book worthwhile, and an agent finds the diamond in the pile of poo announcing said writer's work.

Welcome to a brand new year, fellow writers. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
