Terms Thursday

Because I love you... and it is Thursday, Valentines Day, 2013-I am starting a new thing here called Terms Thursday. What it will have at its basis is terminology for writers who have no idea of what something in the writing world is called.

For example: I wrote an opening scene and it had two talking heads, no attribution tags, no setting of any note, and I knew it would have to be rewritten. I was looking at some terms and discovered that this bare writing is called Brenda Starr Dialogue. Huh? Whassat?

Term for Thursday;

Brenda Starr dialogue
Long sections of talk with no physical background or description of the characters. Such dialogue, detached from the story’s setting, tends to echo hollowly, as if suspended in mid-air. Named for the American comic-strip in which dialogue balloons were often seen emerging from the Manhattan skyline.
